TRANSEARCH Russia / Top Hunt International becomes an adviser in possible questions of career planning for SSE participants and alumni

On 17 January the Stockholm School of Economics in Russia signed an agreement with TRANSEARCH Russia with the aim of the further career development for students at SSE and alumni.

The agreement provides for seminars and round tables dedicated to the important and current problems for Russian and foreign managers, with such topics as: ‘Downscaling– deliberate choice or necessity?’, ‘Emotional maturity of leaders’, ‘Networking as effective business tool’, etc.). TRANSEARCH Russia will also present research findings to SSE students and alumni.

Governor of Stockholm Region Visits the Stockholm School of Economics in St. Petersburg
On 1 February the Governor of Stockholm Region Per Unckel visited the Stockholm School of Economics in St. Petersburg. The Governor met directors of the MBA programs and gave a speech to students. In his speech Mr. Unckel noted especially that the Stockholm School of Economics is an excellent example of cooperation between St. Petersburg and Stockholm in the area of education and science.

Marketing and Advertising Competition
On 3-4 March a PR, marketing and advertising competition was held for fourth and fifth year students from tertiary educational institutions around St. Petersburg studying marketing, PR and advertising. The purpose of the competition is to give employees a better opportunity to see which institutes provide better preparation in these spheres. The second and conclusive round of the competition took place in SSE in the form of defending of a case-study in front of members of the jury: employees of large St. Petersburg companies, consisting of marketing and advertising directors.

At the RBC round table meeting the Stockholm School of Economics was represented by Alexei Popov, Director of ЕМВА General Management programs. He commented that: “So far we haven’t heard of any new big names appearing. At the same time, the leading players aren’t standing still. They are actively developing their products and competition is having its positive influence”.

New program for Executives – EMCC

New educational project from the Stockholm School of Economics (Russia)
– Novartis Business Academy

On 29 April a gala presentation for the Novartis Business Academy took place in the Hotel National, Moscow. The new educational project was initiated by the pharmaceutical company Novartis Farma.

The main task of the Business Academy and SSE is preparing a new generation of top managers capable of carrying out multi-level managerial tasks for promoting Novartis products on the Russian market in Russia and for Russia. The educational program is intended for two years.
Stockholm School of Economics Executive Education in the Financial Times ranking
On 12 May the Financial Times published its ratings of educational business programmes. The Stockholm School of Economics Executive Education was ranked 4th in Europe and 11th in the world. The ranking reflects the School clients’ point of view and shows that clients of SSE have been satisfied with their educational experience at the School, which for more than 10 years has been a leading institution in Russia providing programs for top executives and entrepreneurs.

Debates “Brand for Customer or for Company Leaders?

On 22 May in Moscow the Stockholm School of Economics (Russia) and Mann, Ivanov, Ferber Publishing House  organized debates about branding – “Branding for Customers or Business Leaders?” Experts in marketing and branding shared secrets of brand-making and their own view on this subject and discussed the topic with the audience. Experts were: Igor Dukeov (SSE Professor), Sergey Mitrofanov  (General Director of the Brandflight agency), Samvel Avetisian (marketing guru, former Marketing Director of the Tinkoff company), Christoph Marti (creative director of Interbrand agency). Over 60 participants including SSE Alumni took part in debates.

Stockholm School of Economics: Russia and Raiffeisenbank – MBA credit

According to the cooperation agreement signed between SSE and Raiffeisenbank, SSE Russia participants are able to use special consumer credit programs from Raiffeisenbank in order to pay for Executive MBA programs. “We are interested not only in providing quality education at an international level to our students, but also in providing the most comfortable conditions while acquiring it”,  commented Anders Liljenberg, Rector of the Stockholm School of Economics.

Communications and effective cooperation play an important role in the business education sector. Consequently a new position for a Market Communications Manager has been established for marketing and external links. This position has been held by Anna Izmailova since the beginning of 2008.  Anna has a great deal of experience in the area of marketing communications. She is a doctor of pedagogical science and has two higher degrees: public municipal management and interpreter in professional communications.

 

As of 15 April 2008, SSE Russia has introduced a new position for an Executive Director to have overall operational responsibility for all SSE Russia programs, meaning both our MBA and our executive programs. Olga Loseva, former Head of Executive Programs, and of the SSE Russia Moscow Division, was appointed to this position. Olga Loseva, an SSE MBA graduate and an MD by training, has an extensive career with international companies.

 

From May 1 2008, Dr Ludmila Murgulets will take on the position as Senior Advisor to SSE Russia in the area of external relations. Dr Murgulets is an Associate Professor in social psychology from St Petersburg State University, and has an MBA degree from the Stockholm School of Economics. She has a rich experience in management and occupies several important positions in the Russian business community.

 
The Financial Management module of Executive MBA Oil&Gas Round 3 was held in Northumbria University in Newcastle (UK). The participants’ program included a visit to the Newcastle’s mayor (Peter John Arnold), who talked about new educational projects in Newcastle. It should be noted that every Executive MBA group in Stockholm School of Economics visits leading international business schools and universities.

Thomas Gad speech in Moscow

On April 16 in Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow an Alumni seminar and roundtable was held with the recognized authority in branding Thomas Gad (developer of a unique 4-dimensional method of creating, transforming and maintaining brands and author of the bestselling book 4-D Branding).
The subject of the discussion was  ‘Mergers & Acquisitions – Brand Conflict Solutions and Synergy Effects’.

The roundtable was organized by the Alumni Association of Stockholm School of Economics (Russia) in cooperation with Brandflight, an International Brand Consultancy.

Jacqueline Fendt speech, subject ‘Entering the International Market: Factors of Success’

Jacqueline Fendt is professor of strategy and entrepreneurship at ESCP-EAP and Scientific Director of the school’s Chair for Entrepreneurship. She holds bachelors in organizational science and business administration (honours), an MBA from GSBA/Boston University and a Ph.D. in organization science (cum laude) from Leiden University, Netherlands. On the seminar at SSE Jacqueline Fendt will tell about current technologies foreign markets entry, key aspects of company’s operation on the foreign market, and will give real examples from her own experience.
